THE STATEMENT OF FINANCIAL CONDITION
The Oscar Lee Putnam Cultural and Intellectual Enrichment Program
provides grants for university students from Louisiana for research,
travel, artistic, and internship projects. Proposed projects
may be related to a student's course of study or intended career,
or they may allow the student to explore talents or interests
not specifically related to a curriculum.
Grants will be awarded for the purchase of research materials
and sources, for travel and access to special collections or
libraries, laboratory supplies, performance-related expenses,
art supplies, and to defray other expenses directly incurred
by project research during the summer or academic year 2008/2009.
Grant funds may not be used to purchase supplies or equipment
that will be retained by the student; i.e., all supplies and
equipment purchased with grant funds must be expended during
the course of the proposed project. Examples of such projects
may include but are not limited to:
• performance of an original musical or theatrical work,
• research in the laboratory of a faculty mentor,
• research paper or thesis requiring the consultation
of special collections,
• exhibition of a portfolio of art,
• research requiring field work or study.
Applicants should make detailed and specific proposals which
clearly show how the grant will be used. To be eligible, students
must be Louisiana residents, have a 3.0 grade point average
(4.0 scale), be twenty-three years old or younger at the time
of the grant, and submit the accompanying “Statement of
Financial Condition.” The maximum award is $2,000. Recipients
will be required to submit a report on their experience during
the subsequent academic year. If you would like to be considered
for The Oscar Lee Putnam Cultural and Intellectual Enrichment
Program, please complete the application and submit it and the
required supplementary materials to the Office of Cocurricular
Programs, Robert C. Cudd Hall, Tulane University, New Orleans,
LA, 70118, by 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2008.
